In 1989, Ambassador Baptist College officially began with a “Remove Not the Ancient Landmark Conference.” The speakers were Dr. Lee Roberson, Dr. Tom Malone, Dr. Ralph Sexton, Sr., and Dr. Harold Sightler. At the time, each of these men had been preaching more than 50 years. Thus, a foundation emphasizing the importance of preaching was firmly laid.
These ten men were Dr. Bobby Roberson, Dr. Bill Hall, Dr. Billy Martin, Dr. Les Frazier, Mr. Dalton Heath, Dr. J. Bennett Collins, Dr. Gene Lasley, Dr. Roy Thompson, Dr. Ron Comfort, and Dr. Raymond Barber. These men preached powerful messages and encouraged the next generation of full-time Christian servants to stay in the old paths.
Every summer, Camp Barnabas is held simultaneously with the Landmark Conference. This summer ministry camp is designed for teenagers in grades 7-12 who are either called to full-time Christian service or are seriously considering it. Teenagers from twelve different states joined us for an exciting week of ministry workshops and preaching. Evangelist David Cajiuat from Hazel Green, AL, preached to the campers throughout the week. His messages stirred the teens to see the need for godly character in this wicked world.
During the conference, nineteen teams competed to win the Ambassador Classic golf tournament. On Tuesday, July 14th, the golfers headed to the golf course after the morning service to enjoy a good time of fellowship. At the end of the day, the team from Anderson, SC, came away with the trophy. Congratulations to Alton Ertzberger, Tony Stewart, Butch Irmler, and Craig Shamley!
The highlight of the week was the Preachers Symposium that was held on Thursday afternoon. For more than two hours, eighteen preachers fielded questions from other preachers and those in the audience. Each of these men had been in the ministry for more than fifty years. This special event was recorded and is available for download at www.ambassadors.edu/OnlineSermons/. Questions on many subjects were fielded throughout the session.
The “Remove Not the Ancient Landmark Conference” is an old-fashioned summer Bible conference. Several families have made it their yearly ritual to take vacation that week to join us for a week filled with powerful preaching. Maybe you need to join us next year on July 19-23, 2010. The speakers will include Dr. Raymond Barber from Fort Worth, TX, Pastor Doug Jackson from Saginaw, MI, and Pastor Marc Monte from Avon, IN. We hope to see you then!
