COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

GE 101.1

Financial Management

1.0 Credit Hour

A course designed to introduce the student to the Biblical principles of finances. The course will cover such matters as achieving financial freedom and developing a Biblical value system, family finances, and budgeting.

GE 102.1

Logic

1.0 Credit Hour

An introduction to logical argumentation, intended to teach the student how to identify the fallacies of logic in the oral and written presentations of others and to avoid those same fallacies in his own presentations.

GE 103.1

Freshman Orientation

1.0 Credit Hour

This course is designed to introduce college freshmen to issues pertaining to college and church life. Areas to be covered include manners, dress, church ethics, study habits, and time management. An emphasis will be placed on personal discipline and character.

GE 105.2

Keyboarding

2.0 Credit Hours

Techniques of the touch system of keyboarding, with special attention given to accuracy, rhythm, and speed. Skill-building production activities involve a variety of personal and business communications. Course fee required.

GE 106.2

Word Processing

2.0 Credit Hours

A course providing detailed instruction in word processing. The student will learn the concepts of word processing while learning to prepare, format, and print documents, as well as learning advanced functions such as table handling and mail merging. Emphasis will be placed on the application of word processing in the operation of the local church ministry. Pre-requisite: GE 108.3 or equivalent. Course fee required.

GE 108.3

Introduction to Computers

3.0 Credit Hours

A course designed to provide an overview of computer concepts and uses, including how computers function, terminology, types of computer systems, operating systems, and peripheral equipment. The concept of software for word processing, database management, spreadsheets, and telecommunications will be introduced. Emphasis will be placed on the use of computers in the operation of the local church ministry. Pre-requisite: GE 105.2 or equivalent. Course fee required.

GE 110.3

English Grammar

3.0 Credit Hours

A course of study covering the basic principles of English emphasizing the following: parts of speech, mechanics, grammar, vocabulary, syntax, and spelling. The course also provides practice in writing various types of papers. Pre-requisite: Acceptable score on English placement test.

GE 111.2

Introduction to Sign Language

2.0 Credit Hours

This course is designed to give the student a basic knowledge of American Sign Language with emphasis on both expressive and receptive conversational skills. It will also introduce the history, culture, and community of Deaf people and encourage students to consider the Deaf as a mission field. Pre-requisite: GE 100.2 or equivalent.

GE 113.2

Intermediate Sign Language

2.0 Credit Hours

This course is designed to build upon the basic skills acquired in the Introduction to Sign Language course continuing with emphasis on both expressive and receptive conversational skills. This course will also introduce basic interpreting skills including voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice. Pre-requisite: GE 111.2 or equivalent.

GE 120.3

English Composition

3.0 Credit Hours

A continuation of the use of the basic skills in formulating fresh expression in written communication, wide use of effective vocabulary, and practice in thesis writing. Pre-requisite: GE 110.3, equivalent, or English Placement Test score showing that GE 110.3 is waived.
