MU 120.025

Ambassador Instrumental Ensemble

0.25 Credit Hour

This group is for the development of those students who play instruments. Much of their ministry will be on campus with an occasional trip to local churches in the area. This group also provides a model for those who will go on to develop an instrumental group in their own local church ministries. ¼ elective credit per semester, to a maximum of 2 hours.

MU 121.1

Piano Class I

1.0 Credit Hour

Beginning techniques are covered, including the understanding and practical application of music fundamentals as applied to the keyboard. A progressive competency in basic four-part hymn playing, major and minor scales and chords, and easy classical pieces is required. The student may be placed in MU 131.1, 132.1, 231.1, 232.1, 331.1, 332.1, 431.1, or 432.1 (Piano lessons), depending on his progress and development. Course fee required.

MU 122.1

Piano Class I

1.0 Credit Hour

Private or semi-private instruction is given to each student to develop proper piano technique, practice procedures, and musicality for the performing of classical compositions, gospel song and hymn arrangements; and to learn the basic fundamentals of congregational hymn playing. Private Lesson fee required.

Private or semi-private instruction is given to each student to develop proper piano technique, practice procedures, and musicality for the performing of classical compositions, gospel song and hymn arrangements; and to learn the basic fundamentals of congregational hymn playing. MU 141.1

Voice Lessons

1.0 Credit Hour

Private instruction is given to each student in developing a proper and dependable technique. The student can apply this in the singing of the basic art song and sacred art song literature, as well as applicable literature from oratorio. The ministry of the gospel-song solo is also an important part of this instruction. Private Lesson fee required.

Piano Tuning and Repair I

1.0 Credit Hour

A course of study focusing on the phenomenon of acoustic energy and the mechanics and techniques of piano tuning. Covered topics will include piano anatomy, ear training, tools, various theories of tuning, and special attention to adjusting different registers. There is no prerequisite, however aural acuity and mechanical aptitude are important.
