Private or semi-private instruction is given to each student to develop proper piano technique, practice procedures, and musicality for the performing of classical compositions, gospel song and hymn arrangements; and to learn the basic fundamentals of congregational hymn playing. Private instruction is given to each student in developing a proper and dependable technique. The student can apply this in the singing of the basic art song and sacred art song literature, as well as applicable literature from oratorio. The ministry of the gospel-song solo is also an important part of this instruction. Private Lesson fee required.

Private instruction is given to each student in developing proper techniques and in studying and performing some of the traditional classic literature of the masters, with an ongoing emphasis upon the gospel song/hymn arrangement as a solo ministry for the local church. These classes are arranged according to demand. Material studied will be adapted to the student’s individual needs. Foundational instruction in correct posture, breathing and tone production, vocalizes for good vocal health, diction, and phrasing. Platform deportment and ministry focus with emphasis on sacred vocal literature.

Development of conducting technique necessary to interpret choral literature from various style periods with a view towards the literature used in local church and/or Christian school ministry. Development of hand independence and baton technique. Includes score analysis, rehearsal technique, and extensive in- class conducting. Pre-requisite: MU 214.3.

Students learn sound practical piano teaching techniques and will explore various piano method books and supplemental literature. Actual classroom teaching under faculty guidance will be routinely experienced by each student. Permission of instructor required. Pre-requisite: MU 232.1.
