COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

PT 405.2

Church Planting and Administration

2.0 Credit Hours

A consideration of methods and steps of church planting primarily in the United States, with a focus on the structural organization, administration, and overall operation of a local church. Special attention is given to the pastor’s role in effectively overseeing all functions which relate to the local church.

PT 406.2

Pastoral Theology

2.0 Credit Hours

This course accentuates the leadership qualities and qualifications of the pastor. Instruction is also given on the administration of church ordinances and other pastoral functions such as weddings and funerals, developing a church missions program, establishing church standards, and the personal disciplines necessary for ministry ethics.

PT 407.2

Counseling

2.0 Credit Hours

An introduction to the principles and practice of Biblical counseling to enable students to counsel effectively in their local churches, Christian camps, etc., equipping students to counsel in typical life situations by applying Biblical principles in finding solutions to problems.

PT 408.2

Advanced Counseling

2.0 Credit Hours

This course builds on the introductory principles of counseling already studied and focuses on applying Biblical counseling methods of pastoral ministry. Emphasis is given to common situations in which counsel may be sought from a local church pastor. Methods of counsel as well as best practices will be covered. Pre-requisite PT 407.2 or equivalent.

PT 409.3

Evangelistic Preaching

3.0 Credit Hours

A consideration of evangelistic sermon preparation including outlining, proper use of illustrative material, effective use of memorized Scripture, instruction on dynamic delivery and giving an invitation conducive to bringing results, and instruction on how to make doctrinal preaching evangelistic. Pre-requisite: PT 307.3 or equivalent.

PT 410.6

Pastoral Internship

6.0 Credit Hours

The student spends a minimum of eight weeks (320 hours) working with an approved local church under the direct supervision of the pastor of that church, during which time the student will observe and participate in the pastoral ministry of that church.

Christian Womanhood 4A

0.5 Credit Hour

Christian Womanhood offers practical guidelines for every Christian lady in the areas of Godliness; appearance; etiquette; proprieties; personal, marriage, and family relationships; and time and money management. Much emphasis is given to the training and preparation for being wives of Christian workers. Along with studies of Scripture, much will be gleaned from biographical sketches of wives of great Christian leaders in the past. Two Christian Womanhood courses are taught each year on a four-year cycle. Therefore, a student will not necessarily take them in numerical order. Each female student is required to take the particular Christian Womanhood course offered each semester she is enrolled in Ambassador Baptist College.

Principles of Leadership

2.0 Credit Hours

Principles of Leadership is a study of Biblical principles and examples of leadership. This course is designed to teach and encourage men to fulfill their God-given leadership roles in the home, local church, and in ministry positions.

PT 420.6

Evangelist Internship

6.0 Credit Hours

The student spends a minimum of four weeks (160 hours) traveling with an approved evangelist under the direct supervision of that evangelist, at which time the student will observe and participate in the ministry of that evangelist. In addition to traveling, he will also submit eight detailed messages appropriate for a revival meeting, recommendations for special night promotions for revival meetings, and a financial plan which includes a budget, tax considerations, and financial accountability.
